Re: [IPp] Question
Tracy,
sorry for the delay in responding. We just had our JDRF Walk to Cure
Diabetes this past weekend, so it has been pretty busy. When is your walk?
Our DCA is not tied to the OHI certification. It is referred to in Guilford
county as the "Special Needs Program" and is run by the county school
system. They use it as an all encompassing program to make sure all
children with special needs are provided the best learning facilities. Our
504 plan outlines what needs to be done and when, and we always have had the
doctor put in one specific sentence--"Mom must be called with all bg test
results and can direct how to adjust." What that does is require the DCA to
call always before making any adjustments. We simply do not want the care
provider to make decisions on their own as they are not aware of what can
happen (such as the 150 point drop in 40 minutes). It really gives us piece
of mind and allows Will to enjoy the class. He is not pulled out of
anything, nor is he the center of any attention. All testing is discreet,
and done to allow him to enjoy his first grade.
We may be trying to switch to a better DCA, as the one we have has some
other issues. Maybe more on that later, but it is a long story.
Hope that helps some, and I hope all is well.
Chuck
