[IPp] Re: teen decrease in insulin needs

Hi, Barbara and Claire!
Just thought I'd chime in to say we belong to the same mysterious
club--especially this week! Suddenly my 15 year old Annie is low
every time we turn around, and for no discernible reason. Without any
unusual dietary changes, no new foods, no changes to basal rates, and
NO exercise for several days, we've seen lows in the 50's and 40's and
at 2:00 this morning she was 34! Maybe it's the end of a growth
spurt. Don't think it's related to her menstrual cycle because she's
on a BC pill that keeps her estrogen-progesterone levels pretty even
(doesn't have real periods on this regimen). And I don't think she's
on the verge of illness--she usually runs high for a few days before a
virus sets in, then BG's take a dive.
So even after 12 years of diabetes and 9 years on the pump, there are
still surprises. I can't offer any explanations, but you have my
empathy/sympathy!
Stay vigilant!
Cheers,

Charlotte,
Mama to Annie, dx'd 12/97 at age 3, pumping since 4/00, currently with
Animas Ping

Life doesn't have to be perfect to be wonderful.
