Re: [IPp] CGMS

We have Federal BC/BS and didn't know that they cover the CGMS. This is
exciting news, because we are very interested in getting one for Gunnar, our
8-year-old son. He was diagnosed in 5/07, and started pumping Animas 2020
in 11/07. His sugars seem to be all over the map lately (growth spurt?), so
I would love to be able to get more information about his trends, etc.

Do you know if they will cover the Dexcom 7 for an 8-year-old? I understand
that the Dexcom is not FDA approved for kids, but can doctors prescribe it
off-label and would BC then cover it? I know that Medtronic's system is
approved for pediatric patients, but a rep from Dexcom told me that the
needle for the Guardian is larger than that of the Dexcom 7. Gunnar is just
starting to get somewhat comfortable with the pump's infusion set, so I am
nervous about another hurdle to conquer.

Andrea
