Re: [IPp] Can I just complain a moment?

Hi Julie, I had this last year with my son. I had to get him on a CGM and had
a baby monitor in his bedroom to hear the alarms when he'd go low low ir high
high. He can sleep through a tornado. Scary stuff.
The best long acting carb IMHO is peanut butter on bread! Excellent
sustainable carb for frequent lows.

My son was very ill with "a then unknown new autoimmune disease" and it went
from August to May before I got an answer. At one point he was on over 500
units a day! And either high as a kite over 500 BG's, or chatting with me with
a BG of 24 when the insulin actually absorbed occassionally! TALK ABOUT
TIRED!!!
But good news is he's much better, we have a diagnosis and he's not had any
more really low lows (well, except when he doesn't bolus correctly!). And he
is 15 and hormonal as heck. No periods, just lots of testosterone! I've heard
a lot of the adult female pumpers complain of similar symptoms on here. It
sure could be her monthly. Maybe you can give a shout out on the non parent
pumpers group. Probably lots of advice from the so knowledgable ones!

Arghhh
Good luck, hope things get better. hang in there. Tammee

Subject: [IPp] Can I just complain a moment?

Well, we are on a week of lows that my daughter (17) experiences every few
months and she has got to be sick of eating because I know I am sick of
dealing with it and it's not even me. For example, the other night she went
to bed at 10:00 around 159. By midnight she came down to eat because she was
34. Ate 60 carbs and slowly went up to 45 then 89 so went back to bed.
After
2 hours I figured she'd be sky high, but when I checked she was only 109
after
all that food. Today she was eating dinner around 3:45 (had to go to work) -
she had a black bean burrito and still felt low and added 2 100 calorie packs
of something and some Italian ice and never bolused. I didn't want her
driving so I took her to work and after she got there she had more food
because she still felt low. I've lowered all of her basals several times
this
week, but there is no rhyme or reason to the time of day these episodes
occur.
She does temp basals on top of reducing her basals. They've got to be
related
to her cycle, but we've never been able to figure out a pattern. We know
from
experience this lasts about a week and then goes back to normal (is there a
normal teen diabetic?), so hopefully she will be out of this in the next day
or two. Just needed to vent about the joys of a hormonal diabetic!

Julie
