RE: [IP] Diabetic Seizures
It is true that when low the body releases sugar/glucagon stored in the
liver. What happens in us Diabetics especially those who have hypoglycemic
unawareness is the body slowly becomes less and less responsive to the lows
and doesn't release the glucagons from the liver. We get to the point where
the brain is deprived of enough sugar to operate correctly yet our body
doesn't respond in time any more by releasing Glucagon. The convulsions and
such are the body trying to wake up, it's on overload, WAKE UP!!!!! One time
I woke up in bed completely unable to move, speak, and I had wet myself. By
the time I fell out of bed, I have a tall bed, drug myself like a person
with Multiple Sclerosis 30 ft to the fridge, at least a half hour had gone
by, then I dumped nearly half a gallon of Grape Juice all over myself trying
to drink it laying on the floor my arms and body completely out of control.
I checked my BG shortly after and it was 125, but still I was in a massive
hypoglycemia, at least physically. The raise in BG was due to my body
finally releasing the life saving Glucagon. When there isn't enough Glucagon
stored to bring us back, we don't wake up.

Subject: RE: [IP] Diabetic Seizures
I wonder if there is anyone out there who can help me.
I have nocturnal seizures when my BG is very low. I've done and continue to
do whatever I can to prevent these..and am trying to get my hands on CGMS.
What seems to happen (as observed by my 15 year old son) is I thrash arond
and
have a grand mal seizure, then come ot of it (somewhat) not fully lucid and
will eat something when he gives it to me and directs me to chew and
swallow.
I don't understand why I wake up by myself without the intervention of
something to bring up my BG? I've had lots of Neuro exams, and there is
nothing else "wrong" with me. These are absolutely brought on by my BG.
Anyone out there have any suggestions as to why the seizure stops on it's
own?
(usually lasting from 8-12 minutes roughly)
Thanks so much!
Loree
